Learn transfer learning: start from a model already trained on 1.4 million ImageNet photos (e.g. MobileNetV2 or ResNet50) and retrain only the last part for emotions. Faces must be resized (e.g. 96×96) and copied to 3 channels. Step 1: freeze the base, train the new head. Step 2: unfreeze the top layers and fine-tune with a small learning rate (1e-5).
